Project Description
Büyükçekmece Wastewater Pretreatment Plant serves Büyükçekmece, Mimarsinan, Çatalca, Tepecik and Ahmediye Village districts. The plant was built as part of an environmental protection project to conserve Büyükçekmece Lake, a major water source for Istanbul, and Büyükçekmece Bay, which plays a crucial role in preserving the city’s natural balance. Collected wastewater is transferred into the facility with an average flow rate of 155,000 m3/day.
Treated wastewater is then discharged through a deep-sea outfall, with 4,847 meters under the ground and 1,897 meters under the sea, into the Marmara Sea at a depth of 40 meters with 6,744 meters long deep-sea discharge line in total.
