ISKI Tuzla Advanced Biological Wastewater Treatment Plant
Tuzla Advanced Biological Wastewater Treatment Plant which is Turkey’s First and Largest Thermal Sludge Drying Plant using cogeneration, serves a population of 500.000 residents and prevents the discharge of 150 tons of untreated solid waste into the sea.
Operational Dates: 2003 – 2013
Capacity: 100.000 m3 / day
Population Equivalent: 500.000
Project Description
Commissioned in 1998, Tuzla Biological Wastewater Treatment Plant serves a population of 500,000 residents and prevents the discharge of 150 tons of untreated solid waste into the sea. Wastewater generated along the shoreline between Darıca and Maltepe is delivered to the facility via tunnels measuring 4.5 meters in diameter and a pipeline network. The wastewater is then biologically treated with a flow rate of 100,000 m3/day. Subsequently, treated wastewater is discharged through a 2,200 meter long outfall pipe into the Marmara Sea at a depth of 46 meters.
