Project Description
Gebze Wastewater Treatment Plant is the biggest environmental project of the Kocaeli Metropolitan Municipality. Built on a 107-acre tract on the coast of Çayırova, between the Şişecam Factory and TSE, the project has a total cost of TL 62.5 million. The plant protects the İzmit Bay from pollution by collecting and treating domestic wastewater generated by Gebze’s 670,000 inhabitants. Having a wastewater treatment capacity of 144,000 m³/ day, the Gebze Wastewater Treatment Plant is the first facility in Turkey to be operated by a private company immediately after it was commissioned. Unlike the arrangements in other operation projects, Kuzu Group has also paid for electricity while operating this plant.
Process
The system consists of pretreatment, biological phosphorus removal, denitrification and nitrification via extended aeration, and final clarifiers, thus ensuring complete removal of carbon, nitrogen and phosphorus.
